29 分钟In this "best of" episode with Andrew Huberman, we discuss actions you can take to reduce speaking anxiety and achieve your communication goals.
Hi Matt here.
If you want to continue finding tools to a successful and happy life, I recommend listening to the happiness lab, hosted by Yale professor Doctor Lori Santos.
Doctor Santos has studied the science of happiness and has found that many of us do the exact opposite of what will make our lives better.
Based on the psychology course she teaches.
At Yale, she will take you through.
The latest scientific research and share some surprising stories that will change the way you think about happiness.
This season, she's tackling topics that affect her own life, like stress, perfectionism, and boredom.
If you struggle with any of those, or if it sounds like you could learn more about increasing happiness in your life, then listen to the happiness lab right here in your podcast player.
There's no difference between the physiological response to something that you're excited about and something that you're nervous about or that you're dreading.
And I guess if people are going to take away anything from our conversation today, it's that despite these responses being automatic, there are direct control points through which we can control the autonomic nervous system, meaning that we can dial down the level of alertness or increase the level of calmness.
That was Stanford neuroscientist Andrew Huberman, and I'm Matt Abrahams.
And welcome to think fast, talk smart.
When we were looking at episodes to include in our best of series, we found that the number one episode listeners, just like you, kept coming back to, was this one about managing speaking anxiety.
Clearly, this is a challenge we are all facing as we transition back to more face to face in person communication.
Many of us are really feeling nervous.
Let me bring in Jenny Luna, our executive producer, to introduce this episode more fully.
Hey Matt.
This episode with Andrew is actually our most downloaded throughout all four of our seasons.
I like that you and Andrew share tactical and practical advice, and I love this notion that if you know more about how the brain works, you can be a more confident speaker.
After talking with Andrew, Jenny, I changed the way I think about how I prepare to speak and address my own jitters.
