单集文稿 ...

  • Hi there.

  • This is Harry, and welcome back to the podcasts.

  • And finally, I've got rid of that cold that I had.

  • So hopefully the voice is in good form for this particular week.

  • So, what do we have for you?

  • Well, the first piece I have for you are three more expressions that we use in English.

  • And again, I'll give you some examples of each of them.

  • So, let me start with the first one.

  • When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

  • When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

  • I think this is quite a common expression in many different languages or something equivalent to it.

  • So what does it mean?

  • Well, it means when you're in a strange country or a foreign country, city, wherever that might be, you should follow what the locals do.

  • Okay.

  • And this could mean anything if the locals eat in certain restaurants and they seem to enjoy it.

  • Well, perhaps you should go there, because that's probably where the good food and good wine is.

  • So when in Rome, do as the Romans do and follow them to their particular restaurants.

  • Or if the park in a certain area or in a certain way, you know, maybe the car is facing into the street rather than out, then you should park your car in the same way.

  • So, effectively, what you should do is follow the local traditions.

  • The locals know best, and, you know, they know when the best time to go out is.
