4 分钟Hi there.
This is Harry, and welcome to the third of the podcast for this week.
Here, we're going to focus on a little bit of grammar and something that I refer to, or is referred to in grammar terms as inversion.
I n v e r s I o n.
So what is inversion?
Well, inversion is where we effectively turn around or invert the sentences to create some emphasis or a special effect, or often used by writers or authors to give a little bit of mystery, to make it a little bit more intense, to create or have some effect, or might even be just slightly poetic.
Okay, so we just change the wording around a bit.
You and I may not use it directly, as this is done in an inversion, but the meaning is exactly the same.
So the inversion can be in certain words or parts of sentences to get that particular effect.
Okay, so let me give you an example.
All she cares about is money all she cares about is money now, you and I might say she only cares about money she only cares about money all she cares about is money.
So the inversion here is we're putting the stress, the emphasis at the beginning of the sentence.
All meaning.
Her only care in the world is money.
What it can buy, what it can do.
Okay?
All she cares about is money.
Another example, what you should remember is to stay calm.
What you should remember is to stay calm.
You and I might say you should always remember to stay calm.
