Hi there.
This is Harry, and welcome to our weekly podcast where I try to help you with some english aspects, grammar, pronunciation, interpretation, and all other aspects to help you improve your English.
So what do I have for you this week?
Well, we're going to start with some expressions as we have for the last few weeks, and then we look at some individual sentences and the meaning of those, or the grammar rules and structures in those sentences.
So the first expressions are to do with make.
Okay, so I've got three expressions to do with make.
So the first one makes no sense.
It makes no sense.
Or you could say it in the positive it makes sense.
So you can have it both ways.
So it makes sense or it makes no sense.
If we use it makes no sense, then it's something that we don't understand, or it's so unusual or very strange.
Or the english word nonsense comes from that.
Nonsense meaning ridiculous or very stupid.
Okay.
It makes no sense.
So let's give you a few examples.
It makes no sense to recycle bottles and plastic if there's no recycling and bottling plants in the country to turn it into something useful.
It makes no sense to recycle plastic bottles and glass bottles if there's no recycling plant in the country that can turn it into something useful.
Or the positive.
