4 分钟Hi there.
Welcome back.
And this is Harry with our English podcast, where we're trying to help you understand your english language by using some sentences and explaining the grammar that we're using in each of those sentences.
So here's the first reading.
I have driven along this road a thousand times.
I could almost do it with my eyes shut.
I have driven along the road a thousand times.
I could almost do it with my eyes shut.
So what is the meaning of this particular sentence?
Well, we've got some route or road or area where you drive that you really know exceptionally well.
And we could often say in English, we have this expression, I know it like the back of my hand.
So the back of your hand, you know it obviously very well as part of your body.
So this is an expression we use in English.
I know it like the back of my hand.
So in this situation, we're saying, I have driven along the road a thousand times.
I could almost do it with my eyes shut.
So I've done it so often that really, it's a little bit boring now.
And even if I close my eyes, I'm sure I would know how to drive along the road.
Yeah.
So that's the literal meaning of the sentence.
