Hi there.
This is Harry, and welcome back to our podcast where we're helping you understand and get to grips with some aspects of the english language.
This is particularly aimed at those of you who are learning English in or around the intermediate level, either a little bit above or in case it's a little bit below, it'll be relevant for all of you.
So we're taking certain sentences and explaining the grammar aspects, some pronunciation, and indeed some expressions.
As I always say, if there's anything specific that you want to raise that you would like me to cover, or there are questions that you have, feel free to contact me, and my contact details will be given at the end of this video particular podcast.
I'm going to read the sentence twice, once just for a general understanding, and the second one where I'll give you the more detailed explanation of the points that I feel are relevant for you.
And the sentence I have today is, again, another one of these aspects dealing with life for all of us who are parents.
And this is about the coming of age, when children become old enough to make their own decisions.
Okay, so here's the first reading.
The key sign of someone coming of age is when they earn enough money to pay for their own rent, okay, so as I said, another profound statement.
Second reading, the key sign of someone coming of age is when they earn enough money to pay for their own rent, okay, so the key sign, the most important sign or one of the most important signs.
Key as key to the door.
K e y.
So something that unlocks the door, like lets you in.
So the key sign, something that allows you to understand the thinking of these children.
The key sign of someone, not anyone.
Someone coming of age.
So this is this expression when somebody matures.
When I was that age, it was around 21.
And parents traditionally gave you the key to the door to allow you into the house.
