单集文稿 ...

  • Hi there, and welcome back to the podcast.

  • This is Harry, and we have another english sentence for you that I will explain the particular grammar point.

  • So when you're nice and relaxed, sit back and we'll begin.

  • As always, we're going to read each sentence twice and explain the individual grammar points that would be relevant for you, and particularly for those of you studying English up to and around the intermediate level, although it should be okay for everybody just to get a good brief or re education in particular grammar points.

  • Okay, so here's the first reading.

  • In ten years time, plenty of manual jobs may well have disappeared.

  • Okay, so the second reading, in ten years time, plenty of manual jobs may well have disappeared.

  • Okay, so what does it mean and what are the particular points?

  • So we're talking about a period of time, but a period of time into the future.

  • So future tense in ten years time, meaning ten years from now, so 2019, the present year, so approximately, or around about 2029.

  • So in ten years time, plenty of manual jobs.

  • Plenty means lots of.

  • Okay, it's not one or two, it's more than that, but we're not being specific on the numbers.

  • We're using plenty to incorporate many or a lot, as I said.

  • Okay, so there are a fair few words that we can use a lot, plenty of many, much depending on different grammar points here, we're using plenty of.

  • And manual jobs are those jobs which don't need technology or jobs that are done by hand.

  • So manual job is a job done by hand, like sewing, perhaps, or knitting or ironing, cleaning, those type of jobs.

  • And then we have this expression, may well.

  • May well has lots of alternative options.

  • You could say might.
