单集文稿 ...

  • Hi there.

  • Welcome back.

  • This is Harry, and this is our audio podcast in the english language, trying to help you or trying to understand grammar and other aspects of English.

  • And hopefully we'll be able to help you, as we always do, with some particular sentences.

  • Again, if you have any queries, suggestions, ideas, whatever it is, you'll find the details at the end of the podcast, and I'd be more than happy to hear from you.

  • As always, I'm going to read the sentence twice.

  • First time to give a general understanding, and the second time to go through it in a little bit of detail.

  • Okay, so here's the sentence.

  • First reading.

  • Even after a long overnight flight in a cramped seat without sleep, staff are frequently expected to be in the office next morning ready to do a good day's work.

  • Okay, so quite a long sentence this time.

  • So here's the second reading.

  • Even after a long overnight flight in a cramped seat without sleep, staff are frequently expected to be in the office next morning ready to do a good day's work.

  • Okay, so this is like a again, taken from a manual or an instruction from an office when people are traveling, how they are to behave and what's expected of them when they are flying on business.

  • And in this case, they're expected to get into the office the next morning, even though they may have been traveling throughout the night.

  • Okay, so we start with even after, we could say although, but even after.

  • So we've got the preposition after a long overnight flight.

  • So here we're using the adjectives and in the correct order of adjectives, a long overnight flight.

  • So it's telling us that it's a flight.

  • It's telling us that it's long, and it's telling us that it took place overnight.
