Hi there.
This is Harry, and welcome back to the podcast where we're trying to help you with your english language.
I'm going to read each sentence for you twice.
The first time, just to have an understanding generally what it means.
And then I'll go through the sentence in a little bit more detail as to what is behind it.
And as always, if you want to contact me, please do on my email, and the details will be given later on.
Okay, so if you're ready, let's begin.
First sentence and the first reading.
I should be obliged if you would.
All attend the meeting on Thursday because it is very important.
Second reading, I should be obliged if.
You would all attend the meeting on Thursday because it is very important.
Okay, so the first thing to be said about this sentence is that it's quite formally written.
So it's written in formal English.
So it's obviously business English because it's referring to a meeting that's important.
So it's probably written by CEO or somebody senior in an organization, and he's not giving the people an opportunity to miss the meeting because he's been quite strong at the beginning.
I should be obliged if you would.
Yeah.
So it's meaning that he really wants you to be there, and there's no excuse not to be there.
So we're using these modal verbs again.
