  • This is philosophy bites with me, Nigel.

  • Do you know that after I finish this cue, Nigel will begin an interview?

  • Or do you just believe it?

  • We go through life drawing what feels like natural distinctions between knowing something and.

  • And merely, say, suspecting it.

  • I know that Jennifer Nagle is an expert on our intuitions about knowledge.

  • Jennifer Nagel, welcome to philosophy bites.

  • Such a pleasure to be here.

  • Thanks for having me.

  • The topic we're going to focus on is intuitions about knowledge.

  • Could you give an example of what an intuition about knowledge is right now?

  • I know that you're aware that we're speaking to each other.

  • I know that you're looking at me, and that's something that I'm doing naturally.

  • I'm detecting a state of knowledge in you just by looking at you, just by being aware of which way you're facing.

  • This is actually a very ordinary part of human social existence.

  • We walk around detecting what other people know, what they think, what they want, what they believe.

  • When we interact as human beings, we're not just seeing each other as moving limbs.
