  • Hello, and welcome to another episode of No Such Thing as a Fish,

  • a weekly podcast this week coming to you live from Bristol.

  • My name is Dan Shriver and please welcome to the stage it's Anna Czazinski, Andy Murray and James Harkin.

  • And once again we have gathered around the microphones with our four favorite facts from the last seven days and in no particular order here we go.

  • Starting with me, my fact, my fact this week is that the frog whose Latin name means blue frog is actually green.

  • This is very exciting,

  • this is the Australian green frog and basically when it was sent from Australia to England for scientific purposes,

  • because of the preservatives and so on inside the glass that it was kept in it turned it blue,

  • so they named it blue frog and then it was not until they saw a living one that they realized,

  • oh actually this thing is green, but it is still, its Latin name is still blue frog.

  • Is there not some idea that it might always turn blue when it dies?

  • I think that it is true and

  • because there was a study done wasn't there last year and it was about how certain animals make themselves look certain colors when they don't have the right pigments and I think it was looking at birds and the shape of their feathers and how it's actually often about the shape of it,

  • the structure of something and then how it makes the light reflect off it without using pigments and it said that's why the Australian green frog turns blue after death is

  • because I think the shape of it kind of changes and it gets floppy once it dies.

  • It could also be that all these scientists are color blind.

  • To me it's kind of like a computer game where it's game over,

  • just a frog suddenly just living as green just wah wah wah and it's blue,

  • it's just a really good way of letting you know that okay that's a dead green frog, do you not think?

  • Because frogs, okay I was reading about other frogs,
