Kevin Pickett had been posting flyers around town trying to locate his missing stepson, Corey Kaufman.
In his calendar, day after day, he wrote, no Corey.
Now, weeks had gone by, and he was trying to explain to a Turlock detective that his stepson had never before been gone this long.
Does he do any drugs?
Yes.
Kaufman was a methamphetamine addict who roamed the town scavenging for scrap metal.
He gets some of the wire down, up and down the railroad track.
It doesn't matter what Corey was doing, what Corey was about to do, or what Corey did in the past.
It doesn't matter, okay?
We want to find him.
That's our goal here.
I'm one of the possibility he could be brain hurt or something and don't know what the hell he's doing or where he's at.
Ok.
Cory Kaufman was a tenacious thief.
In his hometown here in California's Central Valley, thieves made enemies more than once had expressed a desire to do him harm.
What do you think happened?
Kevin, I believe, got in something.
Somebody hurt him all the time.
Or he broke in, something he shouldn't have.
I don't.
