1 小时 11 分钟Martin hears your ‘money-festo’ ideas – if you could change one consumer law or rule, what would it be – and why? He and Nihal are joined by former government adviser and policy expert Polly MacKenzie – to assess how practical the suggestions are – as our very own “Polly-filter”. Could we regulate shrinkflation, give parents that chance to book term-time holidays, offer tax-cuts for downsizers, or make the morning commute tax deductible? And would any of those ideas actually work?
BBC sounds music Radio podcasts hello, I'm.
Martin Lewis and this is the cunningly named the Martin Lewis podcast.
I do wonder what that's going to be about.
Usually much of it comes from my BBC Radio five live show with Nihal Arthur Naicker.
But there's lots of bonus money saving information for you lucky, lucky podcast listeners.
And today it's a tellers special.
It's all about your money festo.
Suggestions?
Yes, if you could change a law or regulation to improve consumer or finance products, what would it be?
This isn't about big political bombs like double taxes or half taxes.
It's about the changes and tweaks to everyday life.
You want to see the rules and regulations that govern those.
And it is fascinating what people have come up with.
We've had over 2000 suggestions and amongst those that we're going to go into include freeing up homes by cancelling stamp duty for those downsizing.
There was quite a fierce debate on that one, allowing parents to take kids away for a week during term time in order to cut holiday prices.
New rules to fight shrinkflation, subscription traps and cancellation quirks end the maximum earning threshold for carers allowance.
And should child care be a write off for tax?
We got some secrets from someone who was in the room on that one, as David Cameron came up with the, in my view, misnamed tax free childcare system.
And there are so many more.
It's a fascinating listen.
