You're listening to 20,000 hz.
I'm Dallas Taylor.
I love traveling.
When I'm in a new place outside my comfort zone, I can feel my brain working in a new way.
One of my favorite parts of traveling is hearing sounds that are different than what I'm used to.
When I stayed in Italy, I was struck by how it wasn't just the language that sounded different.
It was the cars, the mopeds, the birds, the footsteps on cobblestone.
It was a vibrant burst of sonic information.
If you intentionally become conscious about what youre hearing, you can experience this anywhere.
And in some places, you can find sounds that you cant hear anywhere else in the world.
Even here in the US, there are some truly unique sounds that you need to know about.
This episode features two stories from one of my favorite podcasts, Atlas Obscura.
There have actually been a handful of 20,000 hz episodes that were directly inspired by the posts I found on the Atlas Obscura website.
So im really excited to play you some of their show.
I'll let producer Johanna Mayer take it from here.
Times Square is not my favorite part of New York City, but today, that's where I'm headed.
Okay, where is this thing supposed to be?
I don't actually know where I'm supposed to be going.
All right, so it's on Broadway between 45th and 46th.
Okay, this way.
