  • This edition of Monocle on Saturday was first broadcast on the 24th of August 2024.

  • Hello, I'm Georgina Godwin broadcasting to you live from Midori House in London.

  • This is Monocle on Saturday.

  • Coming up on on today's program, we'll have a look through the papers with political analyst and author Charles Hecker.

  • Then we speak to Bristol born street artist Sick Boy on the link between graffiti and political unrest.

  • And we'll talk to the cinematic music producer Oscar Osicki about how he translates music to film.

  • That's all ahead here on Monocle on Saturday.

  • First, though, here's the news.

  • President Joe Biden spoke by phone to leaders of Qatar and Egypt on Friday pushing for an elusive Gaza ceasefire for hostages deal as negotiators met in Cairo to try and overcome remaining obstacles.

  • Meanwhile, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that at least 12 Palestinians, including two children and a woman, were killed early this morning by Israeli attacks and at least 15 others were injured.

  • German police say they're still searching for an unknown assailant hours after he killed three people and wounded eight others in a stabbing attack at a festival in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany's most populous state, which borders the Netherlands.

  • And US independent presidential candidate Robert F.

  • Kennedy, Jr.

  • Abandoned his campaign on Friday and endorsed Republican Donald Trump, ending a run that he began as a Democrat, trading on one of the most famous names in American politics.

  • Kennedy recently revealed he dumped a dead bear in New York City's Central Park a decade ago and staged it to look like a bike accident.

  • He also claimed he had a brainworm.

  • His campaign confirmed he had had a parasite in his brain but has since fully recovered.

  • And that's humanical radio news.

  • Hello and welcome to Monocle on Saturday.

  • I'm joined in the studio by my good friend Charles Hecker, political analyst and author of the upcoming book Zero Sum.
