29 分钟I am officially announcing my candidacy, the President of the United States of America.
On the stage almost.
Well, there's an entrance.
Joan Jett Black announcing her intention to run for president of the USA back in 1992.
I know some of you wonder.
Just.
What is my sex.
I wear makeup and I'm a man.
Obviously, she didn't make it.
That was Bill Clinton's year.
But schtick was quite a stir.
In her own words, she made a little dent in history.
Hello, I'm Jo Fidgeon.
Welcome to Outlook and the extraordinary story of drag queen Joan Jett Black and the man under the makeup, Terence Smith.
I got the drag queen Blue Ain't no New England.
Joan Jett Black performing her campaign song.
Full of jokes and innuendo, but a serious message.
Stop ignoring the HIV crisis and the people who are suffering most.
This was the early 90s, as I say, and it seemed to Joan, Terrence, and the Queer Nation Party, they represented that the HIV AIDS crisis was being politically marginalized, along with the gay men and intravenous drug addicts who were its main victims in the United States.
So I was really struck by a comment you've made in the past about how you made a little dent in history, was how you put it.
