Hello, I'm Lucy Hockings from the BBC World Service.
This is the global story.
Today we hear from the gangs smuggling people from Vietnam to Europe.
Almost overnight, Vietnam has become the largest single source of migrants seeking to reach the UK by crossing the English Channel.
It's an arduous journey culminating in this perilous sea crossing in small, unreliable boats.
The BBC has spent months trying to make contact with the criminals smuggling people along this route.
It's a very lucrative business.
If you have a good reputation, the clients come to you.
No force, no violence.
We've been hearing about the forged documents and crippling costs that migrants are facing as they attempt the journey.
So why are an increasing number of people leaving their homes in Vietnam and risking the journey across the English Channel to get to the uk?
Today we go inside the people smuggling route from Vietnam to meet the people running the migration route and the people at its mercy.
With me today is Andrew Harding, the BBC's Paris correspondent.
Good to have you with us, Andrew.
