  • Ninety years ago, Angelo and Giuseppina Molteni opened an artisanal furniture workshop.

  • Fast forward to today.

  • Molteni and C is part of one of the main industrial groups in the high end furniture sector.

  • Recognized internationally for numerous collaborations with prestigious designers.

  • The wider Molteni group is also a company noted for its great tradition.

  • It is first and foremost a family business.

  • With the third generation of the Molteni family now involved, Monocle's design editor Nick Moniz visited the Molteni headquarters just north of Milan to meet Giulia Molteni, head of marketing and communication.

  • There they discussed the importance of shared values and some of the challenges in operating a family owned furniture business.

  • Montenezi was founded in Brianza in 1934 by my grandfather and grandmother.

  • But from there many things have changed.

  • The group today has reached the third generation that I am part of.

  • And we share the privilege of growing up with such a large family, large community, but also the best architects and designers from everywhere working with us that gives the best inspiration from all over the world.

  • Why did you decide to work with the family?

  • Why not go off and do your own thing?

  • Why come back and work with your dad and your brother and your cousins?

  • The story was quite long, honestly, from university we all were very free to pick up our own.

  • For example, myself, I did a great experience in fashion in New York.
