单集简介 ...

In the month of October, Konfekt spreads its wings from Samos to Seoul, the heart of London to the quaint picturesque town of Rye, to ponder everything from the power of solo hiking to how to spot the perfect kimchi and what it really means to dress for the job. Plus, why taking up a needle and thread is back in vogue and a new immersive experience at London’s Cosmic House. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

单集文稿 ...

  • Can our everyday items connect us to a feeling of something bigger?

  • Can architecture be transcendent?

  • When you spend a few hours at the Cosmic House, the London home built by the late Maggie and Charles Jenks, with its zodiac themed staircase and its sundial living room, you start to feel the answer to that question is yes.

  • Every detail from the trove of Chinese scholars rocks or the Eduardo Palautski mosaics links to a metaphysical idea.

  • It is a microcosm and a macrocosm at once.

  • I visited the house for this episode of Confect Corner, and it got me thinking about how so many of the things we own hold symbolic value.

  • There's a human urge to invest objects with meaning, perhaps not as explicitly as the Cosmic House, but in subtle and nuanced ways and sometimes even subconsciously.

  • On this show, we'll delve into this theme with a piece on the art of sewing.

  • We'll take a long, inspiring hike on the island of Samos and reflect on how pushing your boundaries and engaging with nature can expand personal horizons too.

  • And we'll also welcome a Korean chef into the studio to reflect on the national condiment kimchi and how it's rooted in family tradition, history and identity.

  • And finally, we ask whether what you wear can influence how you work.

  • Can you summon a can do attitude from something as simple as a boiler suit?

  • This is Confect Corner and I'm your host, Sophie Grove.

  • We all really would like to have a bit of a uniform to put on.

  • And it's like we grab it in the morning.

  • We love it, we know we like it.

  • It suits us.

  • We've got all the boots and shoes that go with it and that bish bash bosh.

  • Off we go, looking fabulous.

  • And that's what you can do with your own homemade wardrobe.
