For years, author and satirist Gabby Hutchinson Crouch has scoured the week’s news for material to use on the programmes in BBC Radio 4’s Friday-night topical slot, ‘Dead Ringers’ and ‘Newzoids’. She has also written for ‘Horrible Histories’, the Bafta-winning children’s series inspired by ‘Blackadder’ and ‘Monty Python’. Today she discusses her latest book, the first in a new ‘historical romantasy’ series, and is quizzed by a ‘Horrible Histories’ enthusiast. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Hello, this is Meet the Writers.
I'm Georgina Godwin.
My guest today is a satirist who's written for some of the most iconic works of comedy in recent British history.
For years, she's scoured the week's news for material on the legendary Programs in Radio 4's Friday Night topical slot and mimicked politicians and public figures.
Writing for BBC Radio 4's Dead Ringers and ITV's Newsoids.
She's written for Horrible Histories, the BAFTA and British comedy Award winning series that turned an entire generation of children into history buffs.
Using humor inspired by the likes of Blackadder and Monty Python, she's now emerged as the writer of equally hilarious novels and her most recent book is Cursed Under London.
Gabby Hutchinson Crouch.
Welcome to Meet the Writers.
Was that correct?
I mean, I've missed out so much of what you've done.
It's quite extraordinary.
I mean, yeah, it's kind of it.
I'm not a performer, so I certainly didn't do any mimicking.
I wrote for our brilliant.
Yeah, I write for a lot of amazing performers, people like jan Ravens, Lewis McLeod, who are so funny.
And the news quiz and the now show rip.
Yeah, well, I mean, just so much in there.
But I'm wondering where it all started.
Were you a funny child?
