This week on The Global Countdown, Monocle Radio’s Fernando Augusto Pacheco looks at the number-one songs in the most successful countries at the Paris Olympics. Would they also get a gold medal for music? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This is the Global Countdown, first broadcast on the briefing on the 15th of August.
And finally on today's show.
It is a Thursday and regular listeners will know that jingle by now.
Our very own musical curator, Fernando Augusto Pacheco has just rushed right into the studio here for the Global Countdown.
Fei, we've all been watching the medals table of the Olympics open over the past couple of weeks.
You've been watching it with a musical eye?
Absolutely.
First of all, I'm obsessed with the Meadows table every day.
I was checking like twice maybe because I like a little bit of statistics.
But Chris, I just want to realize here, our countries that are a bit sporty, also good with music.
We'll find out right now.
Well, I mean, I have to say on that.
Perhaps just one shout out to the one I'm sure you wish were in there.
Brazil is not in the top five.
Don't even mention that.
What does that say about their music tastes?
Well, we have amazing music taste, but yeah, we're definitely not in the top five.
So I looked at the top five countries in the medals table.
So whoever gets the most gold, silvers and bronze, I think we're gonna start on a very good note.
We're starting with France.
