  • Hello and welcome to the Stack.

  • Today is a bit of a publishing special.

  • I welcome back to the studio Brazilian publisher Julius Videman on the success of his affluence.

  • Plus Spencer Bailey on his new five volume book series together with the leading hotels of the world.

  • Enjoy the show.

  • From Midori Housing London, this is the stack.

  • 30 minutes of print industry analysis and I am Fernando Gusto Pacheco.

  • We start the show talking about a new five volume book series made in partnership with the leading hotels of the world.

  • The largest collection of independent luxury hotels.

  • The first iteration to be published by the Phaidon imprint Monacelli is design.

  • I had a pleasure to speak with the man behind the project, writer, editor and cultural commentator Spencer Bailey.

  • Sometimes in life the best things happen this way, which seems to be almost like total happenstance.

  • It actually goes back a couple years.

  • I was at the Greenwich Hotel in New York City.

  • Leading hotels of the world was having their holiday party and I'm standing at the champagne bar and just strike up a conversation with this woman next to me.

  • We start talking about our mutual travel affinities, the things we love.

  • I tell her about this island in Greece I love going to and how to me it's like the ultimate luxury.

  • Falling asleep to the sound of the ocean behind your head and you know, sleeping under a mosquito net.

  • Maybe not for everybody, but for me that's luxury.

  • Anyway, we were talking for maybe 20 minutes and I asked her, so what's your connection to this event?
