48 分钟My guest today is Rick Stein. A highly requested guest, I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did recording it. Rick is, of course, a chef, restaurateur, cook book author and television presenter. He has written over 25 cookery books, a memoir and made over 30 television programmes. His latest cookbook, Simple Suppers is out now. It has been nearly 50 years since he first opened The Fish Restaurant in Padstow, an area of Cornwall he fell in love with at a young age and has made his home. Despite his successes, Rick describes himself as an accidental restaurateur – who never planned on a career in food. And yet how lucky we are that his dreams of running a nightclub were quashed by the local authorities and led instead to the Stein restaurant empire we know today. He is the man who could pretty much entirely be credited with bringing an appreciation of fish to the UK masses, something he says he didn’t set out to do intentionally, it just made sense at the time. Despite his obvious success, Rick has said, “I’ve definitely got a sense of not being very good at stuff. It’s sort of absurd because, you know, I’ve done really quite well for myself, but I still really doubt myself. It’s just the way I am.” Simple Suppers is out now, available at all good bookstores. And don't forget if you want to enter our Fortnum and Mason giveaway with the chance to win one of their Magic of Christmas Hampers worth £300 sign up for the newsletter via the website www.desertislanddishes.co and I will be sending out more information. Thank you to Georgie my producer for all her hard work and thank you for listening! xx Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Hi, I'm Margie Nomura and welcome to the Desert Island Dishes Podcast.
This is the podcast where every week I ask my guests to choose their seven Desert island dishes.
These range from finding out about the dish that most reminds them of their childhood, the best dish they've ever eaten, and of course, the last dish they would choose to eat before being cast off to the desert island.
The the question is, what would you choose as your last meal?
Hi, I hope you're all very well.
This is a very exciting day as we have Rick Stein on the podcast.
Rick needs no introduction from me, of course, and I know he has been a heavily requested guest, so I hope you're as excited as me about this one.
I'm very happy to report that he is charming and kind and everything you think he will be, and it was a real honor to get to spend time with him.
His new book is out now, Simple Suppers, and he has kindly said that he will send one to one of you, which is a very lovely thing and I will explain more in the newsletter.
You might have noticed that there isn't a sponsor for this episode, but there isn't a way because I have teamed up with the amazing Fortnum Mason to offer one lucky winner the chance to win one of their Magic of Christmas hampers.
These hampers are worth 300 pounds, which will definitely make for a very happy Christmas.
Fortnum and Mason is a brand I've loved for a very long time.
All their products are just gorgeous and delicious, the packaging is luxurious and their hampers really are the best.
So this is very exciting to be in with a chance to win.
You must be subscribed to the Dinner Tonight newsletter as I will be sending out more information about the hamper and also how to enter.
I should say that this is available to UK customers only because of the way the delivery works.
So go to desertislanddishes.co sign up to the newsletter Dinner Tonight and look out for my email with more information on how to win the Hamper of Dreams.
Now, without further ado, here are Rick Stein's Desert island dishes.
