The verb respect is used to show admiration.
I respect the managers for keeping everyone happy when the company is struggling.
Also as a noun, respect can be used to show politeness, honour or care towards someone or something important.
Shaking hands is a sign of respect in many cultures.
It can also be used as a verb to meantreat something or someone with kindness and care.
You need to respect other peoples belongings, treat them like you would treat your own.
Respect as a noun can also mean a feature or a particular detail of something.
In one respect, climate change should be more important to businesses than profit.
