单集简介 ...

How can people get much needed health services as they go about their daily lives? We’re back in Kenya where we visit a barbers shop that offers mental health advice and support alongside the trim and shave. And we check out a truck stop just outside Nairobi where long distance drivers can not only grab some food but also get access to medical care they wouldn’t otherwise have the the time to seek out. People Fixing The World from the BBC is about brilliant solutions to the world's problems. We'd love you to let us know what you think and to hear about your own solutions. You can contact us on WhatsApp by messaging +44 8000 321721 or email peoplefixingtheworld@bbc.co.uk. And please leave us a review on your chosen podcast provider. 单集文稿 ...

  • People Fixing.

  • People Fixing the World.

  • This is People Fixing the World from the BBC World Service, where we escape into a world of solutions.

  • On the show, we get to meet everyday people who've decided to do what they can to make our world a better place.

  • I'm Mayra Anubi and today I'm taking you to my home country, Kenya, and specifically to a barber shop and a truck stop to find out about about new approaches that are persuading men to get help for their mental and physical health.

  • As a kid, my dad would always be quick to take us to get checked if we were sick.

  • But I really can't ever remember seeing him going to the doctors.

  • I mean, he's doing okay health wise, but it's even worse trying to get him to go for checkups.

  • Now, honestly, it can take days and a lot of effort.

  • He just doesn't see the need and doesn't like the fuss.

  • And it seems that this might be a common issue.

  • I was reading a World Health Organization report that shows when men and women are faced with the same disease, men don't go to the doctor as often as women.

  • And it's worse in some parts of the world where it can be harder to access healthcare because of cost or distance.

  • But today we'll hear about projects that are making it easier for some men in Kenya to get the help they need.

  • And to start us off, we are jumping on a truck.

  • Now, most truck drivers are men, and they play a vital role in keeping the wheels of the economy moving.

  • They deliver goods from place to place and in some cases, from country to country.

  • But there's a problem.

  • Truckers often have an unhealthy lifestyle, and also it's hard for them to get access to regular healthcare services because, well, they're always on the move.

  • However, one project has found a way to deliver these services directly to them at truck stops.
