Hello and welcome to Business Matters here on the BBC World Service.
I'm Rahul Tanden.
One main story really that we'll be focusing on, the Republican convention has got underway, of course, just more than 48 hours after that assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Plenty of reaction to that and also what's taking place at the convention.
As always, I'll be joined throughout the program by two guests on opposite sides.
Let's start with Peter Morisi, professor of course, at the University of Maryland.
It has been quite an extraordinary weekend, hasn't it, in the U.S.
peter?
Oh, goodness, yes.
It's not every day that someone like Donald Trump is the victim of a sniper and that the Secret services founds have been so inept in this case, it's really shocking exactly what happened.
It's kind of like the Postal Service and he turns around and nominates a 39 year old with very little political experience.
Though I would say this at this point in time, neither did Kamala Harris have similar experience.
She was a first term senator, a couple of years in the Senate.
Not much accomplished, not much of a platform.
So you know, it's a mirror image in a lot of ways.
And he's very much a Trump acolyte and he's sort of a standby equipment.
If you elect Donald Trump and something happens to him, you're going to get a carbon copy.
