Hello and welcome to the Entrepreneurs on Monocle Radio.
The show all about inspiring people, innovative companies and fresh ideas in global business.
On today's program, we're taking to the mountains.
First, we'll head to Utah to catch up with the co founder of Netflix and hear about his new venture, a skiable art museum.
When you're skiing and when you're on the lift, you know you're trapped.
Your eyes are looking for something.
We are doing something in the mountains, curating a place that really stimulates wonder.
And later, we'll head to Lyon to hear about the opportunities and challenges of starting a business in France from some founders at different points of their climb.
We were well supported by the French government because in France, you're allowed to be unemployed and get the unemployment benefits if you start a business.
And so that was a huge help.
The French government side, they're not so good at buying innovation, but they're good at financing innovation.
This is the Entrepreneurs with me, Tom Edwards.
You're listening to the entrepreneurs.
Netflix co founder Reed Hastings forever changed the entertainment industry, transforming how the world watches television and film.
Today, he wants to do the same on the slopes.
His latest venture takes him off the beaten path, both literally and figuratively, to Powder Mountain, a storied ski resort he recently acquired in Utah's stunning Ogden Valley.
The ambitious project combines Reid's love for the piste, a passion for art, and a commitment to building communities, bringing outdoor artworks to the pristine slopes of the mountain.
I caught up with Reid to hear about his vision for the resort and his philanthropic passion for education.
He began by telling me what it is that makes Powder Mountain unique.
Utah skiing's amazing because of the light powder coming off the Salt Lake.
