This is Purple Heart warriors, an original six part drama series inspired by real events from the BBC World Service Episode one Memorial Day during the Second World War, the American military deployed several segregated units separating white from non white soldiers.
One of these units was the 100th Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, comprised of Nisei's, or second generation Japanese Americans, considered the most decorated unit in history.
For its size and length of service, they earned over 4,000 purple hearts, 21 medals of honor, seven presidential unit citations and numerous other distinctions.
Perhaps most surprising is that they fought for a country that had declared Japanese Americans as enemy aliens and potential threats to security, sending their families to incarceration camps with armed guards and barbed wire fences.
