BBC sounds music Radio podcasts hello, and.
Welcome to your second helping of newscast Today.
The first one was about the former BBC newsreader Hugh Edwards and his decision to plead guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children.
There's been an update since we recorded that episode, which is a statement from the BBC confirming that the organization knew in November 2023 that while Hugh Edwards was suspended, he, he had been arrested on suspicion of serious offenses and released on bail.
At that point, no charges had been brought, and the BBC says they were also made aware of a significant risk to his health.
Then he was not charged until after he'd left the employment of the BBC.
But the organization says they had a policy in place that if he had been charged while he was still an employee, they would have acted immediately to dismiss him.
So a little bit more clarity on the timeline there, and you can hear Katie Razzle, our media editor's analysis of the whole situation on the previous episode of Newscast, which is in your feeds now.
And now we're going to proceed with the latest episode of Newscast, where we'll focus on the big events that have been happening in the Middle east and get the latest on what's happening in Southport in the north west of England.
That is on your latest episode of Newscast.
