Today, we look at some of the elections that are taking place around the globe in 2024! 6 months after they discussed the future of democracy in 2024, Adam reunites with political scientist Ben Ansell for an update on the elections taking place this year. They discuss the US election; why the Democrats chose to make their campaign all about democracy, and how unprecedented events have changed the US political landscape. They also chat about what we can learn from election results in the UK, France and India. And which elections should we focus on later in the year? Hello.
This weekend, Laura and Paddy are away, so I'm going on a two day bender.
Let me just explain.
So we decided that we should take this opportunity to just do two episodes where we chat to one person in depth in each one, about their area of expertise.
And hopefully it's an area that we are interested in.
Unfortunately, through sheer fluke, we've booked two guests who are both called Ben.
So we're going to call this the newscast weekend Bender.
And because a newscast Bender wouldn't be like anyone else's, the second helping is going to be an interview with Lord Ben Houthin, the elected mayor of the Tees Valley.
And the first half of it is going to be with Professor Ben Ansell, professor of comparative democracy at Oxford University.
So, yeah, my kind of bender.
Let it commence.

The exit poll is predicting a labour landslide.
We did it.
And before you know it, you have.
A bright future behind you.
I really don't know what he said at the end of that sentence.
Joe, you did such a great job.
