Now France's President Emmanuel Macron is visiting the French Indian Ocean island of Mayotte, devastated by a cyclone last weekend.
He's promised to bring aid and support, but critics say the level of destruction there is a direct result of Mr.
Macron's underinvestment in the island.
The President has now said he'll extend his visit to Mayotte to assess the full impact of the cyclone.
And he's announced a day of national mourning for Mayotte on Monday.
