Draw a circle in the air with your finger.
Isn't there something very satisfying about a circle?
Its unending nature, its constant symmetry?
And think of all the times we've stood together in circles, in playgrounds and schools, in sports and teams, in meetings or in prayer.
When people come together, it's often in a circle, everyone in an equal position.
Sometimes on this journey, I've been invited to join witches in their groups to take part in rituals.
You could call them circles, they're covens or meetings.
Because something witches do, a lot is ritualized.
I mean, between eight sabbats, 13 full moons, initiations, there's a lot to mark and many, many ways to mark it all.
And obviously the Greek ritual isn't unique to the witch.
Just take a look at any religion.
But then there's also things like baby showers stuff, bagdos, carnivals, confetti at weddings, Sunday dinners.
They are everywhere in our lives and it seems we need them.
From BBC Radio 4, I'm India Rackerson and you're listening to Witch Episode 12 Witch Circle.
I'm walking along a riverbank, holding a potato and talking to a witch called Gary.
So, Gary, you're an elder, is that correct?
Yeah, I'm just old.
Just old.
