  • This is in conversation from Apple News.

  • I'm Julia Carpenter, filling in for Shamita Basu.

  • Today, how to embrace retirement.

  • Whether you're 30 years old or 50.

  • Years old, preparing for retirement is daunting.

  • According to several surveys, roughly half of us say we aren't on track to retire comfortably.

  • You know, it's a very abstract concept.

  • I think people often have a lot

  • of trouble envisioning what life is really gonna look like at that point.

  • That's Anne Tergeson.

  • She's a reporter for the Wall Street.

  • Journal who has covered retirement for decades.

  • If it's hard to imagine your future self, you have less of an incentive to set aside savings.

  • So that can actually affect whether people save appropriately for retirement.

  • Ann and her colleague Veronica Dagger are out with a series called the Way We Retire Now.

  • They speak to people with a wide range of retirement experiences

  • about how they are each making it work,

  • regardless of the number in their bank account.

  • And though retirement is a rite of passage for almost everyone,

  • Veronica started by reminding us that each person's experience is unique.
