I'm David Green filling in for Shamita Basu.
Today, a former elite gymnast abused by Larry Nassar speaks out.
Chair Durbing, Ranking Member Grassley, and distinguished members of the Judiciary Committee,
thank you for inviting me to speak to you today.
On September 15, 2021,
a young woman who had first been known in court filings
as Athlete A told her story to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
She was one of more than 300 survivors of sexual abuse by former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.
I want everyone to know that this did not happen to gymnast two or to Athlete A.
It happened to me.
Maggie Nichols.
Maggie Nichols was the first athlete on the national team to report Larry Nassar's sexual abuse
to USA Gymnastics in June of 2015.
That day before the Senate, Maggie,
along with three of her former teammates, Simone Biles, Ali Raisman,
and Michaela Maroney,
told lawmakers about the horrors they suffered
and about the FBI's failures in investigating Larry Nassar.
We now know there was no real FBI investigation occurring.
