I needed to remember a good moment, a time when I felt hopeful, when that light inside of me wasn't dim, but burning and bright.
2019 was the year that I went to because that is the year that I started this show.
Truth be told, I've never worked on anything that has come together as quickly as this show did.
The idea came one night while hanging out with my friends, fellow journalists Christina and Sandhya.
We were actually spread out on Christina's living room floor and her couch and just riffing about the kind of show that we needed to hear.
Outside of the daily deluge of news about impeachment hearing lawsuits and hate crimes and Trump's face plastered at top of every news cycle, every hour on the hour.
It didn't really take us long to figure it out.
A friend, Christina said, the one you call after a long day, the one who gets you.
And that friend, Sandhya continued, is you, Tanya.
Over five seasons I've had a chance to learn from some of the greatest thinkers and storytellers of our time about how to survive and more importantly, radically thrive in a changing America.
I've tried to be a friend by opening up space and really listening because I'm on this journey too, to figure it all out.

And so I decided to listen back too.
And it has been so emotional because there is so much wisdom and soulful life affirming conversations that I really need it.
