First though, here's the Dozens of people were killed in an airstrike by Myanmar's military government in the western state of Rakhine this week, the United nations said as the Southeast Asia nations civil war nears its fourth year.
The civilian shadow government and the Arakan army, an ethnic militia based in Rakhine fighting for the autonomy of the region, also reported the attack had killed dozens.
The flight data and cockpit voice recorders on the Jeju Air jet that crashed on December 29 stopped recording after reporting a bird strike about four minutes before the airliner hit a concrete structure at South Korea's Maon Airport.
The Transport ministry said today 179 people were killed in the worst air accident on South Korean soil and two injured crew members sitting in the tail section were rescued.
And Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whose nearly 12 years in office had been marked by deep economic and social crisis, was sworn in for a third term Friday despite a six month long election dispute, international calls for him to stand aside and an increase to $25 million in the US reward offered for his capture.
The US move coincided with sanctions by Britain and the European union, each targeting 15 officials, including members of the National Electoral Council and the security forces and Canadian sanctions targeting 14 current and former officials.
