Hi, I'm Johnny diamond and from the BBC World Service.
This is the global story.
After 15 months of war, a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hama.
On October 7, 2020, three Hamas fighters poured into Israel, killing 1200 people and taking around 250 hostages.
That day and the conflict that followed would reshape the Middle East.
Since then, in Gaza, tens of thousands of people have lost their lives.
Two million have been displaced from their homes, and almost 100 Israeli hostages have been held by Hamas.
And for 15 months, the world has seen loss and suffering on a scale few would have imagined was possible.
Now, after 467 days of conflict and countless false dawns, a ceasefire deal has been reached by negotiators in Qatar.
If it's passed by the Israeli cabinet and if the ceasefire holds, this will be a moment of hope in a region that has known much in the way of despair.
So what does the deal say?
Why is it happening now?
And out of the rubble of conflict, can a lasting peace emerge?
We're recording this episode on Wednesday evening, just a few hours after that ceasefire was announced.
