  • And in honor of our 15th anniversary this month, we are pulling especially old episodes out of the darkest recesses of the deep freezer.

  • Last Friday, we released the first ever Sporkful episode, episode number one, along with a classic one on sandwich science with Robert Krulwich.

  • Today we're sharing my entire interview with weird Al from 2014.

  • I was so excited to have Weird Al on the show.

  • I was trying so hard for like two years to get him on the show.

  • Like every three months, I would email his manager, hey, is he free now?

  • How about now?

  • And the manager would say, no, right?

  • Back in a few months, two years.

  • Finally he said, hey, Al's doing a concert up in northern Westchester.

  • This was like two hours from where I was living.

  • And he says, if you want to get there early before the show, you.

  • Can interview him backstage while he's hanging out and waiting for the show to start.

  • I said, I'll be there.

  • And having Weird Al on the show, dissecting so many of his classic songs, it was a special memory.

  • It felt like maybe the first really big guest, not counting Rachel Maddow and Marc Maron.
