  • After 15 months of war, Israel and Hamas have agreed to pause their fighting in the Gaza Strip.

  • For months, the warring parties faced a fundamental divide.

  • Israel wanted to get its hostages back and then continue the war, while Hamas didn't want to release captives unless it meant an end to the conflict.

  • But now the two parties have been able to bridge that gap.

  • During a news conference to announce the ceasefire, President Biden said his administration worked alongside President Elect Donald Trump's team to make the deal.

  • I knew this deal would have to be implemented by the next team, so I told my team to coordinate closely with the incoming team to make sure we're all speaking with the same voice, because that's what American presidents do.
