Hi there, I'm Linda Presley and welcome to the documentary from the BBC World Service.
Since President Trump was inaugurated in January, migrants,
and especially the border the US shares with Mexico, have dominated the news.
So we thought this was perhaps a good moment to share with you once again,
a two part series Tim Mansell, Ulises Escamilla and I made in 2024.
The first part charts some of the fallout
from the first Trump administration's policy of forcibly separating migrant children
from their parents on the southern border back in 2017,
2018.
The second part explores the deeply troubling impact of organised crime and the cartels on migrants
as they journey across Mexico towards the United States.
At the end of each part, I'll give you an update on some of the characters we met on this reporting trip.
Here's Border Stories, Part 1.
We're traveling now.
It's just after 6 in the morning.
It's still inky, it's still dark.
And just in the sky, the moon like a golden golden ore, so we can see twinkly lights there on the horizon.
