I'm Tim Franks and we're beginning with the announcement made at altitude en route to a big sports contest, which means it's tempting to refer both to the turbulence the announcement has made and the fact that the person making it, President Trump, says that this is no game.
As of today, Mr.
Trump says that the US will impose a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminium imports.
He was speaking to reporters from behind his desk aboard Air Force One as the plane headed towards the super bowl on Sunday.
We'll also be announcing steel tariffs on Monday.
What countries will those go on?
Everybody.
Steel.
Including Canada, Mexico.
Any steel coming into the United States.
Is going to happen.
Have a 25% tariff.
Aluminum too.
