There aren't many stories about Westminster politics that start with a call to Mauritius.
Speaking.
This is Olivier Bankou.
He's lived in Mauritius for over 50 years,
but he was born 2000km further east across the Indian Ocean on Perros Banyos,
one of the atolls that makes up the Chagos Islands.
I left Chagos in 1968.
Oh, it smells like something is attached to my heart.
We are surrounded with the sea, with many fish.
We have lots of coconut trees.
We can create jobs.
The islands were once part of Mauritius
