  • Speaking.

  • This is Olivier Bankou.

  • He's lived in Mauritius for over 50 years,

  • but he was born 2000km further east across the Indian Ocean on Perros Banyos,

  • one of the atolls that makes up the Chagos Islands.

  • I left Chagos in 1968.

  • Oh, it smells like something is attached to my heart.

  • We are surrounded with the sea, with many fish.

  • We have lots of coconut trees.

  • We can create jobs.

  • The islands were once part of Mauritius
