The show today was recorded on the sidelines of the Jaipur Literature Festival in India.
My guest, just one of the Pulitzer Prize winners speaking at the festival,
was born in Houston and now lives in the Netherlands.
He's the author of why this World?
A biography of Clarice Le Spectre,
a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the New York Times notable book of 2009.
For his work bringing Clarice Lispector to international prominence,
he received Brazil's first state prize for cultural diplomacy.
He won a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2017.
And for Sontag, her life and Work, he won the Pulitzer.
His most recent book, the Upside Down Meetings with the Dutch masters, appeared in 2020.
