  • I'm Georgina Godwin.

  • The show today was recorded on the sidelines of the Jaipur Literature Festival in India.

  • My guest, just one of the Pulitzer Prize winners speaking at the festival,

  • was born in Houston and now lives in the Netherlands.

  • He's the author of why this World?

  • A biography of Clarice Le Spectre,

  • a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the New York Times notable book of 2009.

  • For his work bringing Clarice Lispector to international prominence,

  • he received Brazil's first state prize for cultural diplomacy.

  • He won a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2017.

  • And for Sontag, her life and Work, he won the Pulitzer.

  • His most recent book, the Upside Down Meetings with the Dutch masters, appeared in 2020.
