  • BBC Sounds music radio podcasts.

  • Hello.

  • It's 1091 days since Russia began its full scale invasion of Ukraine.

  • In the last few hours, the US and Russia have finished those talks in Saudi Arabia,

  • the first such talks in years.

  • This was an absolutely huge moment.

  • There was a really symbolic photograph.

  • Vitaly, talk us through that.

  • Well, they sat at the table.

  • They're a long table.

  • That's when it was shown to the media.

  • Before the talk started, after they finished, after four and a half hours,

  • both the Americans and the Russians were really happy.

  • The gist of what they agreed on is to keep talking.

  • They agreed to appoint key negotiators for Ukraine and they agreed that these negotiators will meet,

  • and I quote, in due course.

  • And around that table, if you think since February 24,

  • 2022, President Putin and Moscow have been international pariahs.

  • Three years on, with the war still raging,

  • there is Russia's foreign affairs minister sitting opposite America's top diplomat.
