Kyle and I wanted to begin the podcast with a special note.
There is a massive,
massive hockey game in the United States on Thursday night
and there would be a time where one of the people who would be
at the front of the line to call it was Mike Lang.
Mike Lang was the voice of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
He died Wednesday at the age of 76 years old.
And he was as synonymous with Pittsburgh as anyone could ever be.
If you were a Penguins fan,
he was the soundtrack of your life with his distinctive voice and his incredible calls.
You listened to a Penguins game not necessarily to see what he would say,
but how he would say it and the excitement he conveyed with it.
I do remember the first time I met him as a young Hockey Night in Canada reporter came up
and he welcomed me,
said congratulations on getting this job.
And it was like you were being recognized by royalty.
Obviously at Hockey Night in Canada, you spent a lot of time in Pittsburgh.
From all the great players who were there to all the team success.
It was always, always, always a pleasure to see him.
He was a big time star, but he never big timed anyone.
