I'm Alex Dibble and I executive produce the podcast The World in 10 is partnered with Frontline, the interview series from Times radio, available on YouTube with expert analysis of the world's conflicts.
At the weekend, we bring you Frontline interviews in full.
Here's one from this week.
I hope you find it interesting.
Hello, and welcome to Frontline for Times Radio with me, Kate Chabot.
And today we are catching up with Major General Mick Ryan.
Mick served with the Australian army for more than 30 years.
He's a senior fellow for Military Studies at the Low Institute, adjunct fellow at the center for Strategic and International studies in Washington, D.C.
and his latest book is called the War for Ukraine.
Mick, great to see you again.
Welcome back to Frontline.
Thanks, Kate.
It's great to talk to you again.
It is.
And in the absence of a breakthrough on the battlefield of the war in Ukraine, how would you assess right now the political maneuvering?
Is it actually getting us anywhere?
Oh, I think we haven't seen a breakthrough on the battlefield or in the strategic strike regime, but we've seen a political breakthrough by Putin, of all people.
I think the comments in the last week or two of Donald Trump, where they want to re establish economic ties with Russia, where Ukraine has been blamed for starting the war, has been a tremendous boon for the Russian cause, unfortunately.
