  • Hello and welcome to the Urbanist, Monocle's programme all about the built environment.

  • I'm your host, Andrew Tuck.

  • Coming up, we now know what to do.

  • Much, much more than before, where we just say, oh, forest fire or cars.

  • But also knowing what to do does not lead to a full solution, it's actually implementing it.

  • How can Bangkok tackle its suffocating air pollution?

  • With the recent ranking of 4th worst in the world when it comes to air quality, we hear how the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is taking steps to combat the problem which is choking its citizens and its economy.

  • Then we explore a soon to be realised mega development in central London which is putting community at its core.

  • We knew that we wanted to deliver a mix of uses, but really we've pushed the boundaries as to quite how much space we can create on the site and how we can bring those uses together most effectively.

  • All that ahead in the next 30 minutes right here on the Urbanist, with me, Andrew Tuck.

  • We start today in Thailand, where the capital city Bangkok has recently been blanketed by choking air pollution.

  • In late January, Bangkok was ranked as the fourth worst city for air pollution on Earth.

  • One of the particular forms of air pollution that has been affecting Bangkok, known as PM2.5, impacts health and is also damaging tourism.
