  • Welcome to Macro Musings,

  • where each week we pull back the curtain and take a closer look at the most important macroeconomic issues of the past, present and future.

  • I am your host, David Beckwourth,

  • a senior research fellow at the Merketis center at George Mason University.

  • And I'm glad you decided to join us.

  • Our guest today is Dean Ball.

  • Dean is a research fellow and a colleague of mine here at the Mercatus center,

  • where he works on artificial intelligence, emerging technology, and the future of governance.

  • Dean joins us today to discuss recent developments in AI policy,

  • debates surrounding AI and the future of AI.

  • Dean, welcome to the show.

  • Thanks so much for having me.

  • It's great to have you on.

  • It's always fun to talk AI.

  • It's current events and sometimes its implications moving forward.

  • Now, you're part of the program here that works on AI.

  • Before we get into all that,

  • tell us about how you became a participant, an active participant in this space.

  • Yeah, it's a bit of a funny story because I don't have a direct background in it professionally.

  • I spent most of my career at think tanks doing sort of mostly unrelated things.
