NATO chief Mark Rutte met with US President Donald Trump at the White House in an attempt to keep America,
NATO's most powerful member, at the center of the organization.
Trump's forthright moves to cut a peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow and threats to pull out from providing US military aid have left European states scrambling to work out how they can go it alone without American support.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a group of 32 countries that agree to defend each other in in the circumstance
that one is attacked.
It was formed in 1949 to counter the threat of the Soviet Union and the original alliance included the United States,
Canada and several Western European countries.
