单集简介 ...

The White House says Russia and Ukraine have agreed to ensure safe passage for commercial shipping in the Black Sea and stop military strikes. But could it work? Today we talk to Martin Griffiths, former Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at the United Nations. He played a key role in the Black Sea grain deal in 2022 and he gives us an insight on how to negotiate with the Russians. And we fact check claims made by President Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in an interview with pro-Trump journalist Tucker Carlson. Today’s episode is presented by Victoria Derbyshire and Vitaly Shevchenko. The producers were Ryan Johnston and Ben Carter. The technical producer was Ricardo McCarthy. The series producer is Tim Walklate. The assistant editor is Max Deveson. Email Ukrainecast@bbc.co.uk with your questions and comments. • BBC Sounds music radio podcasts.

  • Hello.

  • It's 1,126 days since Russia began its full scale invasion of Ukraine.

  • And talks to try to bring about some kind of peace in Ukraine have ended in Riyadh.

  • Vitaly,

  • we are recording on Tuesday afternoon here in the uk and we've just got a statement in from the White House.

  • In fact,

  • two separate statements following talks between America and Russia and talks between America and Ukraine.

  • Both say that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to ensure the safe navigation and eliminate the use of force in the Black Sea.

  • So it's a Black Sea, A maritime ceasefire?

  • A Black Sea ceasefire, yes.

  • However, I'd really like to hear that from Russia, not the United States.

  • We're recording it shortly after half past 3.

  • UK time.

  • Nothing from Russia yet.

  • Okay, then,

  • second paragraph in the statement about talks between America and Russia says

  • that the United States will help restore Russia's access to the world market for agricultural and fertilizer exports,

  • lower maritime insurance costs,

  • and enhance access to ports and payment systems for such transactions.
